WHO ARE WE RAISING MONEY FOR?
We are raising funds for three charities, 2 based in Hong Kong (Feeding HK and Food Angel) and 1 based in London but involved in a network across Europe (Feedback Global).
Our supporting charities are aiming to eliminate food waste across Europe and Asia.
Their work includes; intercepting food destined for disposal, working with governments, businesses, NGOS and the public to change society’s attitude toward wasting food.
WHY?
One third of edible food is wasted, enough to feed 3 billion people, and yet almost 1 billion people are starving. Every year tens of millions of tonnes of safe edible fresh food are discarded due to changed labelling regulations, end of season excess stock, out-dated packaging, as well as small label or weight inaccuracies. When good food is needlessly thrown away, not only do we ignore the struggle of those fighting against hunger, but we also waste huge amounts of resources required in getting the food from “field to fork”, resulting in countless environmental and economic implications, not to mention the enormous methane production from food rotting in landfill.
