Hello, this is just a quick update on Forks on Wheels progress over the last couple of weeks.

TRAINING:

  • Bikes

  • Beth has a new bike to train with! She has been riding road style with her local cycle club and occasionally using Strava!

  • Julia has yet to sort out a training bike but she is currently off gallivanting around South East Asia, so I guess we’ll forgive her.

  • Skype core training

  • We have been meeting regularly on Skype to do a core session for cyclists outlined in Tom Danielson’s book ‘Core Advantage

’ (see the photo!)

  • This is going well although maybe not as frequently as we’d like!

EQUIPMENT, ROUTE PLANNING AND OTHER ADVICE

  • Simon Taylor, Julia’s teacher, has been giving us some great advice on everything! In particular he is helping up understand equipment and get our heads around stuff suited to such long journeys.

  • We have both met many individuals from countries that we are planning on travelling through and it has really helped to gain a local perspective of the country.

  • We are regularly updating our spreadsheets with the information we find.

CHARITIES, ORGANISATIONS AND FUNDRAISING

  • We have pinpointed a number of organisations that we want to work with and projects that we want to support.

  • For now we are focussing on liaising with charities local to us (HK and UK), once we have gained their support and advice we hope to approach more international charities.

  • We have been reading a lot of research undertaken about food waste and security (we have missed reading scientific papers).

  • We have brainstormed lots of fundraising ideas! Most of which involving cycling! Secret for now ;)

This was a speedy update. We are hoping to have more information soon!

For now – back to writing emails and riding bikes.
